Jeff and Lori Kolenich are working in Westlake now, but it didn’t unfold the way they envisioned. The husband and wife duo had spent their careers moving up the ladder into management positions at American Greetings, and expected to move with the company as it transferred operations from Brooklyn to Westlake.
But fate had other ideas, as both were laid off from the company in a round of downsizing. The couple, who reside in Bay Village, were unhappy with the prospects of a “traditional” job search and decided to strike out on their own as entrepreneurs.
With the help of a franchise business consultant, Jeff and Lori found a perfect fit for their skills and work experience with Speedpro Imaging, a large-format graphics company with nearly 150 locations in the U.S. The Kolenichs’ new studio on Viking Parkway, which opened in March, is the first Speedpro franchise in northern Ohio.
Along with two employees, the couple create extreme-resolution displays, banners, exhibits and vehicle wraps for consumers and businesses. “Basically anything on vinyl,” Jeff explained.
The Kolenichs were attracted to Westlake because of its proximity to their home in Bay and the abundance of business parks with “tech-flex” space, allowing them to house a studio, private offices and a vehicle bay in one location.
Since opening four months ago, the studio has already attracted high-profile clients, including Horseshoe Casino, Greater Cleveland Aquarium and RTA.
